A Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Sesor Foundation, empowered 106 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) with funds to enable them start their businesses, yesterday.
The Executive Director of the foundation, Ms Ier Jonathan-Ichaver disclosed this at an event to Mark Mother’s Day in Lagos.
Jonathan- Ichaver said the foundation was working with IDPs that were displaced by terrorists or bandits but had found their ways to Lagos to settle.
“We have actually been working with about 106 of these women all around the Lekki, Ajah axis to train them on livelihood.
“So we teach them how to manage their businesses. What is profit, what is capital, and then we are actually giving them some funds for their businesses.
“So the range varies, for those who are with us for the first time, we give them N30,000. While those doing their second round of collection got N50,000.
” And then the last round are those on third or fourth round, they are getting N80,000.
The executive director said the foundation was using the occasion of the Mothers Day to celebrate the resilience of the women and to present certificates of participation at the end of their training.
She said that from today, the accounts of the beneficiaries would be credited.
She expressed gratitude to Grooming Center, which had partnered with them in the last five years to put smiles on the faces of the displaced women.
On her part, a representative of Grooming Center, Mrs Becky Onuoha, expressed delight that the partnership with Sesor foundation was impacting positively on the lives of the displaced women.
“We are glad to celebrate our women on Mother’s Day, making them to understand that there is still hope even if they are living far away from their homes.
”Yesterday being Mother’s day, we are glad to celebrate them and empower them. We thank Sesor foundation for the partnership and wish the women well in their chosen businesses,” Onuoha said.
