Re-election bid: Imo Speaker urges lawmakers to remain committed to duty

The Speaker of the Imo House of Assembly, Mr Emeka Nduka, has charged members of the house to remain focused and committed to their legislative duties as they campaign for re-election.
Nduka gave the charge during the plenary session of the house on Tuesday as they embarked on a six-week recess. He urged them to pursue their legislative roles with vigour and commitment until the expiration of the ninth house.
“As we have moved into the campaign period, preparatory to the general election, I wish our dear colleagues who are pursuing one political position or the other success in their endeavours.
“Let us remember that Imo House of Assembly has not shut down and will not because of election.
“I therefore request that, despite the rigour and tight schedule of campaigns, we must endeavour to come to plenary sessions regularly and promptly.
“It is a legislative duty we owe our constituencies and by extension Imo people and we must pursue and discharge it with vigour and commitment until the end of the ninth assembly.
“We must take our core legislative assignments – law making, oversight and appropriation – seriously,” Nduka said.
He commended Gov. Hope Uzodimma for the successes recorded so far, particularly the reconstruction of the assembly complex.
He said: “It is my considered opinion, and I believe you share the same with me, that Imo House of Assembly is the most fortunate of all the Houses of Assembly in Nigeria.
“It takes a legislator to understand a legislator, which explains why our governor, who was a super legislator, committed such huge resources in rebuilding the once dilapidated and scary house of assembly complex.
“This is geared towards making our jobs easy and we cannot thank him enough.
“The successes we have recorded in Imo could not have been possible without the patriotic zeal, insight, love for the legislature and dogged determination of our governor to place Imo among the best in the comity of states.”
The speaker also thanked his colleagues for their roles in his election as speaker and called for their continued support toward the discharge of his duties.
